Athens, December 17, 2025 - More than 12 million children currently suffer from severe acute malnutrition, while approximately 1 million children lose their lives each year from hunger-related causes. Severe acute malnutrition remains one of the deadliest threats to children under 5 — a threat that can be addressed, however.
This year, UNICEF Greece, in collaboration with Goodwill Ambassadors George Perris and Antonis Tsapatakis, is launching a joint awareness and fundraising campaign with a clear message: no child should die of hunger.

As part of the "Food for Life" campaign, the two Ambassadors are featured in special videos posted on UNICEF's social media channels, conveying a powerful message of solidarity and informing the public about the life-saving action of ready-to-use therapeutic food (RUTF).
Ready-to-use therapeutic food is a special, nutrient-rich food that can help children with severe acute malnutrition recover in just a few weeks, even at home. UNICEF supplies 75–80% of therapeutic food worldwide, reaching even the most remote communities.

Perris

"Malnutrition is not just lack of food. It is a lack of opportunity for life. Every child deserves to grow up healthy, strong and with dignity—and that is something we must all work together to achieve."

George Perris, UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador in Greece
Tsapatakis

"Severe acute malnutrition is not inevitable. There is a solution and there is a way to save lives. With a small daily donation, we can make a huge difference for the children who need it most."

Antonis Tsapatakis, UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador in Greece

The "Food for Life" campaign, implemented by UNICEF Greece, will also be promoted abroad, contributing to raising awareness and raising funds at the international level, with the invaluable support of the Organization's two Ambassadors.
The relevant videos are available online in Greek and English and accompany the awareness and fundraising campaign.
