Survey launched to inform regional youth-friendly mental health and psychosocial support directory
UNICEF, Healthy Caribbean Coalition/Healthy Caribbean Youth and Let’s Unpack It band together on the development of a youth-friendly mental health and psychosocial support tool
23 August 2023 - Ten out of 10 people should know where to access mental health services in the Caribbean.
The Healthy Caribbean Coalition/Healthy Caribbean Youth, Let’s Unpack it and UNICEF Eastern Caribbean are collaborating to develop a Mental Health and Psychosocial Support services (MHPSS) directory. The project will create an easily accessible, user-friendly, child, parent and youth-informed tool highlighting the available list of free, government MHPSS facilitated by the health, education, social (child protection); and emergency services sectors for children and youth.
The directory will include services in Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, British Virgin Islands, Dominica, Grenada, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Montserrat, Trinidad and Tobago and Turks and Caicos.
Key aspects of directory will be informed by intended users
On August 14th 2023, the partners launched a Caribbean-wide survey to engage youth, parents/guardians, and people who work with children to find out what information they would want to see in a local MHPSS directory. The directory presents a great opportunity to support the mental health of children and young people across the Caribbean.UNICEF Child Rights Ambassador and Healthy Caribbean Youth member, Priyanka Lalla, notes that:
“As young people, we are exposed to so much stimuli that challenges us, changes us, makes us think and make us feel, while we are still developing as our own individuals.
Mental health resources supported by professionals are critical in guiding our safety, well being and development.
Let’s reduce the stigma associated with seeking help.”
Your voice matters and can help shape the future of mental health resources. Participants even have a chance to win one of two $50 USD Amazon gift cards by completing the survey.
The survey can be completed here until September 1st at 11.59PM AST.
