Children in Antigua and Barbuda are protecting themselves from infectious diseases
The UNICEF and USAID supported campaign themed "GERM BUSTERS" is being launched at 30 schools in the country
26 September 2023, Antigua and Barbuda - Children in Antigua and Barbuda are learning how to protect themselves from infectious diseases through a UNICEF and USAID supported campaign launched this week.
The Ministry of Health and The Environment in collaboration with the Central Board of Health launched “GERM BUSTER” to sensitize children and teachers about simple but important hygiene practices.
The campaign covers effective hand washing techniques, sanitising when water is unavailable, how to properly cover your nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing and the importance of vaccinations. The initiative also discourages common practices among children like touching their eyes, nose, ears and mouth. Children are also being taught a catchy hand-washing jingle.
Public Health Inspectors and Environmental Health Aids attached to the Central Board of Health are carrying out the exercises in the coming weeks at thirty schools across Antigua and Barbuda.
Jennings Primary, S.R Olivia David Primary School, Golden Grove Primary, and Old Road Primary are among the first to benefit from the initiative.
The schools were also given masks, sanitizers, and posters featuring superheroes, dubbed ‘germ busters’.
