What ASEAN integration could mean for children
Assessment of the ASEAN Community Blueprints and potential impacts on children
Highlights
ASEAN integration will undoubtedly mean change -- and alongside this change will come increased opportunities and increased risks for children. The UN Committee on the Rights of the Child recommends that all countries conduct a child rights impact assessment (CRIA) prior to the adoption of new policies at regional and national levels. Child impact assessments such as this study help determine the impact of actions on children and whether they effectively protect and implement the rights that almost all countries guaranteed to children when they ratified the Convention on the Rights of the Child. This is important because sustainable development begins with children, and it will only be achieved if our policies and programs are properly assessed from a child rights perspective.
