Our Green Futures: Children’s Voices in the Green Transition - Insights from Kenya and Pakistan
Highlights
This report brings together the perspectives, drawings, photos and lived experiences of children and adolescents who are part of the green transition. It captures what the shift to renewable energy means for the children in communities near solar parks, wind farms and climate‑affected areas in Kenya and Pakistan.
Using participatory methods - including Photovoice, mapping, focus group discussions and storytelling - children describe both the benefits and challenges of the transition taking place around them.
Across the locations, one message came through clearly:
Children want to be heard - and they have clear ideas about what a just transition should look like.
They asked for:
- Safe spaces to play and move freely
- More trees and environmental protection
- Transparent decisions on land use
- Female representation in community engagement
- Access to climate education and green skills
- Participation in decisions on local infrastructure and energy projects
This report is not just a documentation of impacts - it is a direct call from children to governments, businesses and policymakers to design and implement the green transition with them, not simply around them.
