Highlights
he Voices of Youth 2024 report presents key findings from a survey of 2.163 young people in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), focusing on their experiences in education, employment, socio-economic status, discrimination, mental health, mobility and social participation.
Engaging 2.163 young people aged 15–30, including Roma, youth with disabilities and LGBTIQ youth.
Results show progress in language proficiency and educational attainment, yet persistent challenges remain - especially for vulnerable groups in employment, inclusion and access to opportunities.
Climate change and mental health are top concerns, with LGBTIQ youth reporting the highest rates of depression.
Emigration intent remains high, largely due to limited prospects and social exclusion.
Compared to previous survey waves (2008, 2011/12 and 2016), there are positive trends in education and mobility, but setbacks in youth participation, trust in institutions and mental health support.
Summing up on both survey data and focus group insights - the report highlights the urgent need for systemic change - calling for more inclusive education, better alignment between education and labor market needs, improved mental health services and stronger youth engagement in decision making processes and policymaking.
