Challenge
A significant number of young children in Bosnia and Herzegovina do not receive adequate health care, leading to developmental delays and serious illnesses. In addition, health equity gaps persist in infant mortality and among children under five. Obstacles include insufficient resources, low awareness of services among hard-to-reach population groups and a limited number of qualified staff.
Solution
To help improve health outcomes for all children in Bosnia and Herzegovina:
- UNICEF Bosnia and Herzegovina aims to reach at least 35,000 children under five through early childhood development services, including home visits, early detection of developmental delays, and early interventions for children with disabilities.
- UNICEF provides technical assistance to the Association of Pediatricians of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina to introduce additional services into the standards and norms of health care services.
- UNICEF has expanded its support for Nutrition-Friendly Kindergartens and preschools.
