The Ministry of Health and Wellness, in collaboration with UNICEF Belize and national partners, is today launching its inaugural Community Health Workers National Forum a milestone moment for Belize’s primary healthcare system.

Community health workers (CHWs) from across the country have come together, each carrying the lived experiences and insights of the communities they serve. Throughout the forum, CHWs are sharing open and honest feedback, engaging in meaningful discussions with peers, technical experts, and ministry leaders.

These conversations highlight the realities on the ground, the challenges CHWs face, the barriers to essential care, and the practical solutions they believe will strengthen the health system. As the first and often only point of contact for families in remote and hard‑to‑reach areas, community health workers are a lifeline. They connect children, women, and entire communities to the national public health system, ensuring access to vital services such as immunization, maternal and newborn care, nutrition screening, and health education.

UNICEF is proud to support efforts that elevate the voices of frontline workers and strengthen community‑based healthcare. When community health workers are empowered, with training, resources, and recognition, children receive better care, families are healthier, and communities become more resilient.
