GMA Network supports COVID-19 public service announcements for preventive action
MANILA, 22 May 2020 – GMA Network, through DZBB and GMA News TV, supports the COVID-19 preventive action efforts of the Department of Health (DOH) and UNICEF Philippines by airing public service announcements (PSAs) produced by the two agencies with support from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
The airing of the PSAs amplified COVID-19 messages that will help the public stay informed as the Philippines and the entire world brave the pandemic and find ways to address it.
“Having one of the largest media networks in the Philippines give airtime to these materials will definitely help the country’s COVID-19 response, as essential information are conveyed to Filipinos across the country who are tuned in to GMA Network’s television channels and radio stations,” said Niko Wieland, UNICEF Philippines Chief of Communication, emphasizing that the millions of viewers and listeners of GMA Network will greatly benefit from the PSAs.
GMA Network readily agreed to air the PSAs as part of its commitment to help deliver reliable news and facts amid the COVID-19 pandemic. “The need for global information has never been greater than it is today. We are grateful that UNICEF Philippines is partnering with GMA Network to fight COVID 19. Together, we hope to educate more people in preventing the spread of the virus. This is our commitment to every Filipino anywhere in the world- to bring Serbisyong Totoo during these trying times,” said Angela Javier Cruz, GMA Network Vice President for Corporate Affairs and Communications.
The video, which focuses on taking care of one’s mental health during the pandemic, was aired on GMA News TV from May 20 to 22. The radio PSA about COVID-19 signs, symptoms, and prevention was aired on DZBB from May 20 to 21.
