Overview

The Ministry of National Services Regulation and Coordination (MoNHSR&C), Government of Pakistan, in collaboration with UNICEF and the United Kingdom’s Department for International Development (DFID), developed and carried out the National Nutrition Survey (NNS) 2018.

The National Nutrition Survey 2018 assessed the nutrition status of the population of Pakistan with a primary focus on children under five, adolescent girls and women of child bearing age, including pregnant and lactating women.

NNS 2018 is planned to be a more detailed survey with district level representative sample and included additional indicators on food security, water sampling and analysis of blood samples for zinc, vitamin D, iron, calcium, serum folate and vitamin B12.

The results of the survey will be considered a foundational cognitive resource to develop evidence-based policies and make informed decisions that address the root causes of malnutrition. It will also help all stakeholders, including public and private, in planning nutrition-specific interventions. Eradication of malnutrition in the country will also encourage and support poverty alleviation efforts by Pakistan.
