About

This Yemen Socio-Economic Update (Issue 82, October 2023) highlights the vital role of education in rebuilding Yemen’s human capital and economy. Years of conflict, poverty, and the COVID-19 pandemic have left 2.7 million children out of school and severely damaged education infrastructure. Female illiteracy remains high, and early childhood enrollment is only 0.5 percent. The report urges urgent investment in education to restore access, support teachers, reduce inequality, and advance progress toward Sustainable Development Goal 4 on quality education.
