Highlights

The Climate Finance Analysis: Its Implications for Children in Kenya report offers important evidence on the insufficient attention climate finance gives to children and child-critical social sectors in Kenya.

While Kenya’s public climate spending rightly prioritises adaptation, social sectors, including education and social protection, still receive limited attention in climate finance flows, both domestically and internationally.

Rebalancing finance is urgent. Kenya’s climate adaptation investments, whether domestic, from international sources or through the private sector, must be significantly increased and better targeted toward building resilient, inclusive and climate-smart social services that protect children and vulnerable communities from growing climate risks.

UNICEF is working closely with the Government of Kenya to strengthen the resilience of children and the critical social sectors they rely on, including education, health, nutrition, WASH, child protection and social protection, in the face of growing climate risks.
