Highlights
In 2025, the systems millions of children rely on came under unprecedented strain. Longstanding safety nets were weakened by geopolitical instability, economic volatility, and sweeping funding cuts, leaving millions without access to essential nutrition, education, and humanitarian support. In this context, innovation is no longer optional – it is central to how UNICEF responds to complex challenges affecting children health, learning and well being.
Over the past five years, the Office of Innovation (OOI) has built an approach accelerate results for children and their communities by strengthening the systems that deliver essential services so they can hold under pressure. What emerged is not a victory lap, but a clearer view of the distance still to travel. The scale and severity of children’s needs continue to outpace the systems designed to meet them, shaped by overlapping crises and an increasingly complex global context. Bridging that gap will demand sustained effort, sharper focus, and the continued strength of the partnerships that have brought us this far – governments, innovators, communities, and supporters working together to turn progress into something durable for every child.
Impact Brief 2026 outlines our progress to-date through the delivery of 258 initiatives across 118 countries, reaching 55 million people directly and an estimated 180 million more indirectly by the end of 2025.
