Highlights

This document outlines the Core Principles for Engaging with Persons, including Children, with Disabilities in Guyana. These principles are intended to guide the respectful, inclusive, and rights-based interaction with Persons, including Children, with disabilities across all sectors. They reflect a shared commitment to dignity, equity, and the full participation of all individuals in society.
These principles were developed through a collaborative process led by the Ministry of Human Services and Social Security (MoHSSS), in partnership with UNICEF Guyana. They are aligned with the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC), and Guyana’s Persons with Disabilities Act (2010).
Recognising the diversity of stakeholders and contexts in which persons, including children, with disabilities are engaged, these principles are designed to be adaptable while ensuring that their core principles are upheld consistently. They are intended to support national laws and international commitments through practical guidance.
