ATHENS, June 25, 2024 - The new Memorandum of Cooperation, signed on June 25, 2024, by Mr. Athanasios C. Thanopoulos, President of ELSTAT, and Dr. Ghassan Khalil, Diplomatic Representative of the UNICEF Office in Greece, exemplifies their ongoing and productive cooperation since 2016.
The aim of their partnership is to increase the availability of disaggregated data on children, particularly about vulnerable groups of children, such as children without parental care, child survivors of violence, children living with disabilities, and refugee and migrant children.
“ELSTAT’s mission and duty is the equitable and impartial statistical representation of the characteristics of the more vulnerable social groups, such as children, and aspires to this becoming a suitable tool for pursuing targeted policies. We are very happy when we see eye to eye with international organizations that share our mission and can contribute to it”, said Mr. Thanopoulos, and expressed his enthusiasm for their cooperation.
“We are honored to continue this partnership with ELSTAT – one of the most trustworthy independent Authorities in Greece. Our joint work will promote child-centered statistics and is an example on how we can make children and their needs more visible by bringing together data generation, statistics and evidence-based policy making”, stated Dr. Ghassan Khalil, and thanked ELSTAT for their continuous cooperation.
ELSTAT and UNICEF endeavor to ensure that every child in Greece is accounted for in the data collection by exchanging methodologies, manuals, and structured questionnaires. Moreover, they promote every child’s social inclusion and the respect of its fundamental rights through their joint participation in national and regional meetings and conferences, their joint publications, and their joint awareness-raising campaigns.
