Republic of Korea contributes US$2.5 million through UNICEF to support children affected by the earthquakes in Venezuela

The Government of the Republic of Korea has contributed $2.5 million through UNICEF to support people affected by the recent earthquakes in Venezuela. The contribution includes $1.5 million for emergency life-saving response efforts and $1 million for education programmes aimed at helping children remain in, or return to, school.

According to estimates from the International Organization for Migration (IOM), up to 6.76 million people may have been affected by the earthquakes. UNICEF estimates that 1.8 million people, including hundreds of thousands of children, require humanitarian assistance, with needs expected to rise as assessments continue. The Republic of Korea's timely contribution will help restore essential services and infrastructure, strengthen community resilience, and support recovery efforts for children and families affected by the crisis.

The $1.5 million emergency response programme will run from July to December 2026 and aims to reach 12,800 people through interventions in water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), education, and child protection. The programme will help provide life-saving assistance, restore safe learning environments, and strengthen protection services for vulnerable children and families.

The $1 million education programme will run from September 2026 to August 2027 and will focus on reintegrating out-of-school children into the education system while improving the quality of education for children at risk of dropping out. The programme will help ensure that children continue learning and have the support they need to reach their full potential despite the challenges posed by the crisis.

This contribution reflects the Republic of Korea's continued commitment to supporting vulnerable children and communities affected by humanitarian crises and will help enable children and their families in Venezuela to recover with dignity and hope.
