Embracing Early Childhood Education in SNNPR region, Ethiopia
At Weyra Lalo Primary School in the Central Ethiopia Regional State, children are receiving the best interactive early childhood education with love and play. In this UNICEF-supported school, children enjoy a child-friendly learning environment where their interests are nurtured, and their potential ignited. The classrooms are equipped with engaging learning materials, enabling the children to get the best early childhood school experience. Thanks to their dedicated teachers who believe that early childhood education is the foundation of children’s future in education.
We spent a day with these lovely six-year-olds and here is what they have to say about their early childhood learning experience.
“I like to play with toys. I can make a truck with these blocks. Look! It is nice. I want to become a doctor when I grow up, so I can become strong and help others. I love learning Hadiya language and social science. I also like to learn about health and hygiene.”
“I love learning. I want to learn and play more every day; I feel happy when I come to school. Here, I can play with my friends, and it feels great. I particularly enjoy playing ‘Suzi’ (jumping rope) with my friends. I also like learning English. I know the alphabets.”
“My favorite teacher is Asnakech because she teaches me a lot of things. She also sings and plays with us. She is kind to us even when we disturb in class. When I grow up, I want to be a teacher just like her.”
“I want to become a driver so I can go around the world and get a good job. My favorite time in school is when I learn about health, the environment, and a lot of other good stuff. I also love writing numbers and alphabets. I love my teacher Asnakech because she teaches me different subjects.”
“I like playing with my friends at school. It gives me freedom. My favorite game is ‘Abebito Flinto’ (children being in circle and playing different Q&A games). I love my teachers. They are very friendly to us. Every day they teach us to be good children here in school and at home. I want to say thank you to them. I want to be like my brother Ashenafi, who loves learning and is in grade 9. I will study hard and become a teacher so I can teach other children.”
“When I grow up, I want to become a teacher and help other children learn and make them love learning like me. Children need to learn, and school is good for them. I love playing ‘Midir Min Yilal’ (what would the earth say Q&A game), it brings me joy when I play it with my friends. I want my teacher Askalech to be happy because she makes me happy too.”
