Highlights

In 2022, children and their families across Ethiopia faced multiple and complex emergencies, including the conflict in northern Ethiopia in Afar, Amhara and Tigray regions, sporadic inter-ethnic conflicts, and the worst drought in forty years affecting Afar, Oromia, and Somali regions. This resulted in 29.7 million people in need of humanitarian assistance across the country, including 15.7 million children. While responding to the significant humanitarian needs in the country, UNICEF continued to invest in long-term development programming, although balancing development and humanitarian needs was a challenge.
