France Bégin: New UNICEF Representative in Burundi

The new UNICEF Representative in Burundi, France Begin, presented her credentials yesterday to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Development Cooperation of the Republic of Burundi.

Bujumbura, September 01, 2023: We are pleased to announce that Madame France Bégin has taken up her new position as UNICEF Representative in Burundi. Prior to her appointment in Burundi, she served as UNICEF Representative for the Republic of Equatorial Guinea.

With over 28 years' experience in international development in Africa, Asia and Latin America, in Burundi, Ms. Bégin is determined to develop effective partnerships and improve the well-being of the most vulnerable children, adolescents, mothers and families.

"I am delighted to take up my new post in Burundi, where I am committed to consolidating the excellent cooperation between UNICEF and the Government of Burundi, strengthening our development programs for all children and adolescents, and working closely with UN agencies and other development partners to promote an integrated and effective approach to children's rights and well-being," said France Bégin.

Ms. France Bégin has held several key positions within UNICEF, including Senior Nutrition Advisor at UNICEF headquarters and Regional Nutrition Advisor for the East Asia and Pacific region. She also held senior positions at Micronutrient Initiative, now Nutrition International.

France Bégin is a Canadian citizen, with a PhD in nutrition from the Montreal University and a master's degree in nutrition and dietetics from Laval University in Quebec.
