UNICEF Youth Advocate to attend Young Leaders meeting ahead of UNGA
Gaborone, Botswana – UNICEF Botswana Youth Advocate, Ms Catherine Mantswe, will today leave for New York to attend a Youth Mobilization Lab ahead of the UN General Assembly (UNGA).
Ms Mantswe, a student at Gaborone Senior Secondary School and other young leaders, will engage in advocacy around Sustainable Development Agenda, exchange insights and experiences on progress on child rights, build networks and participate in skills-building sessions. The overall aim of this initiative is to strengthen youth-led advocacy during the UNGA, contributing to UNICEF’s advocacy agenda. The meeting will be held from 14th -18th September 2023.
" We believe that she takes with her valuable experience from Botswana and this platform will provide her an opportunity to contribute to the global dialogue on sustainable development and climate action." noted the Acting Representative of UNICEF, Alexandra Illmer.
Ms Mantswe has previously hosted the Forum for Children and Young People, a global event hosted by UNICEF and Governments of Botswana and Sweden. She also delivered remarks at the handover ceremony of the 75 Letters to the President event and spoke at the sub-regional commemoration for World Children’s Day, attended by children and heads of state from Botswana, Namibia, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
