UNICEF and UNFPA champion Take a Girl Child to Work initiative
International Day of the Girl Child
GABORONE- UNICEF and UNFPA will this year mark the commemoration of the International Day of the Girl Child through the inaugural "Take a Girl to Work" Initiative. Commemorated under the theme Invest in Girl’s Rights: Our Leadership, Our Wellbeing, this initiative will give girls, particularly those from disadvantaged background, exposure to different career opportunities.
This collaboration underscores importance of fostering gender equality, empowering girls, and creating a brighter and more inclusive future. The day’s activities will start at each participating host organisation, followed by a networking session, where, First Lady, Ms. Neo Masisi will officiate.
The International Day of the Girl, observed annually on October 11th is a global platform to advocate for the full spectrum of girls’ rights. This initiative offers a remarkable chance to make a tangible impact by welcoming girls from local schools and communities into the workplace for a day, to ignite their curiosity, broaden their horizons, and demonstrate the vast array of opportunities available to them. More than twenty organisations ranging from Private sector, embassies, UN Agencies and government entities will be participating in this initiative.
