EmpowerHer Belize
Transforming Futures for Adolescent Girls in Southside Belize City
In 2025, UNICEF Belize, in partnership with the Ministry of Youth and Water Walkers Boys and Girls Club, launched EmpowerHer Belize in Southside Belize City to address the urgent needs of adolescent girls facing poverty, violence, and limited access to services. The pilot targets over 6,500 beneficiaries through a holistic, community-based model.
EmpowerHer Belize integrates safe spaces, mentorship, reproductive health education, mental wellness, and vocational training. It strengthens existing youth services with gender-responsive strategies and ensures adolescent voices guide implementation through a Girls Coalition.
The programme’s innovation lies in its multisectoral approach—linking psychosocial support, civic engagement, and community transformation. The Mentorship component engages men and boys as Champions in ending gender-based violence.
EmpowerHer Belize is more than a programme—it’s a replicable model for empowering girls, building resilience, and fostering leadership in vulnerable communities.
