UNICEF Public Finance for Children (PF4C) aims to improve the use of domestic resources for services of importance to children. UNICEF takes a hands-on approach to helping governments make budget decisions that lead to adequate investment and continually improve budget equity, efficiency, effectiveness, and transparency for greater impact.
This budget brief captures the situation of Belize’s macro-fiscal context and public finances and more specifically public policy and spending in education. It consists of: (i) reviewing the education systems’ legislation, its implementation and effective monitoring, (ii) assessing education and financing mechanisms, namely transfer of funds to service providers as well as payment and purchasing, and (iii) assessing trends and efficiency of education expenditure.
