New UNICEF Representative in Belize presents credentials
BELMOPAN, 6 February 2025 - The newly appointed UNICEF Representative to Belize, Ken Legins, presented his credentials to Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Hon. Francis Fonseca and Chief Executive Officer, H.E. Amalia Mai. They participated in an introductory meeting held at the Laing Building in Belmopan.
During his meeting, Representative Legins reaffirmed UNICEF’s strong support to advance the rights of every child in Belize and discussed continued collaboration in the areas of child protection, education, health, collaboration with regional bodies and private sector in Belize. During his tenure he will provide strategic leadership to existing and new programmes and will spearhead the development of a new country programme to address Belize’s national priorities targets for children.
Representative Legins, has over 25 years of experience in international development having held high-level positions in UNICEF HQ, Iraq and China amassing a wealth of technical experience in public health, humanitarian-development context, social sector systems building, and optimizing supply chains in over 90 countries. He also worked at the WHO Regional Office in Europe on adolescent and maternal health in Ukraine, North Macedonia, and with refugee women and children in Albania during the Kosovo War.
