Elaha’s story, an inspiration to others.
As we mark the International Day of the Girl Child, an estimated 3.7 million children are still out of school in Afghanistan, 60% of whom are girls. These children face an array of risks on Their way to school because of violence and insecurities, putting girls at even a greater disadvantage.
11-year-old Elaha, a grade 5 student faces challenges as such every day.
“I was helping my mother at home when we heard a blast. Without talking a word, every one of us moved downstairs, fearing an attack close to our house,” talks Elaha about complex attack to a mosque nearby.
There were several explosions on her way to school. She avoids the crowd when going to school.
“These incidents never stop me from going to school, but I feel scared now for the threats are against schools,” says Elaha. “My friend Shabnam is no more allowed to go to school. Her parents are worried about her safety, I don’t want this to happen to me,” added Elaha.
