LUSAKA, Zambia – World Toilet Day (WTD) was commemorated in Chona Chiefdom in Monze district last 19 November. The event doubled up as celebrations to declare the Chiefdom open defecation free (ODF).

Presiding over the event, Hon. Kufuna urged other chiefdoms in Monze and Zambia at large to accelerate community-led total sanitation (CLTS) initiatives to ensure the program is able to meet its goals.

He said that the Ministry of Local Government and Housing together with partners have to ensure that 3 million rural Zambians gain access to improved sanitation by 2015.

The colorful event attracted visitors from all walks of life in the district and was attended by 15 chiefs from Southern and Central Provinces.
