LUSAKA, 11 August, 2017 – UNICEF’s newly appointed Representative to Zambia, Ms. Noala Skinner, has officially taken up her position, following the presentation of her letter of credentials to the Permanent Secretary, Ambassador Chalwe Lombe of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. At the reception, Ambassador Lombe emphasised the commitment of the Government of the Republic of Zambia to address issues affecting children.
“UNICEF is a key partner in achieving the targets set in the Seventh National Development Plan and Zambia’s Vision 2030,” said Ambassador Lombe. “As Zambia is a young nation, we are confident that UNICEF, through its diverse programmes, will continue to reach the majority of the population of Zambia - children under the age of 18.”
The Seventh National Development Plan recognizes the multi-faceted nature of sustainable development which calls for interventions to be carried out simultaneously through a coordinated system.
“I am delighted to be here and I am looking forward to building on the successful cooperation with the Government, international community and civil society in support of the rights and well-being of children and women in Zambia” said Ms. Skinner. “UNICEF is committed to supporting Zambia’s inclusive approach to development, and to leaving no one behind. Together in partnership we will continue to support programmes and strategies that contribute to the improvement of the lives of all children in Zambia.”
Ms. Skinner, a national of the United Kingdom, brings over 20 years of experience in planning, implementation and management of a wide ranging programmes in several countries including Rwanda and Montenegro where she served as UNICEF Representative.
Prior to her appointment as UNICEF Representative to Zambia, Ms. Skinner served as the Director of UNICEF’s Partnership Office for Relations with the European Union Institutions in Brussels.
