Teachers training on active learning and class management

For more positive and improved education

In partnership with The Education Office in Wadi Hadramaut, Yemen, UNICEF conducted a teacher training workshop on active learning and class management in Sayun and Shibam districts. The training was funded by The King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre and targeted 211 male and female teachers and lasted for five days.

“I used to work as a teacher and then I became an educational mentor in the Education Office. I then became the head of the orientation team in the Education Office in the district. I am currently the head of the Technical Office for Social Work at the Ministry of Education office in Sayun”, says Salem Ashour Dehnan, one of the trainers.

Salem Ashour is one of the trainers in the course on active learning methods.

“This training is on active learning, especially classroom management. During this training which stretched over 5 days, participants were introduced to concepts such as classroom management, classroom management elements, teacher patterns, and managing a successful classroom. There was also a rich exchange of knowledge between trainer and trainees”, adds Salem Ashour.

“This training is important as it helps turn teachers’ ideas into activities, which will reflect positively on the educational process. There will be an improvement in classroom management, the educational process and educational achievement”, Salem concludes.

“This training was on the basic skills OF active learning program classroom management. Although the trained lasted five days, I feel it was not enough. we hope that there will be more courses in the future so that we benefit and live up to the education of this emerging generation in which we put great hope in the development of the country”, says Abdulqader Hussein Al Saqaf.

“The course covered many topics; the first of which is the basic concepts of classroom management, second, classroom management, third, social human relations, and fourth, classroom problems. The importance of this course lies in the fact that it is a refresher course on the importance of classroom management, which is an essential foundation in fruitful quality education. It arms teachers with the knowledge to be able to with students’ behaviors and better use the educational material. That leads to a successful mission of the teacher”, says Taha.

“We have benefitted a lot from this training course and have exchanged information and experience”, says Adel Abdulrahman BaZuhair, 48 years old, a teacher and one of the trainees.
