Yemen is currently battling one of its worst cholera/Acute Watery Diarrhoea outbreaks, adding to the devastation and suffering caused by the ongoing conflict.

UNICEF with support of different donors including the World Bank is responding to the needs of the affected communities in most of the high risk districts through the provision of safe water and sanitation services. Furthermore, UNICEF in partnership with World Bank is expanding the Water, Hygiene and Sanitation (WASH) programme, including the rehabilitation of water systems to strengthen the prevention of water borne diseases.

The Environmental and Social Management Framework is created to ensure that WASH interventions implemented under the World Bank-UNICEF partnership do not create any negative environmental and social impact on the Yemeni people

The framework also provides recommendations to UNICEF and WHO to ensure that all WASH investments and projects are environmentally and socially sound.
