Highlights

The Family-MUAC approach is widely implemented in countries across Africa and Asia, but predominantly in in the West and Central Africa region. Also known as “MUAC for mothers” or “Mother-MUAC”, this approach trains mothers and other caregivers to identify early signs of malnutrition in their children using a simple to use Mid-Upper Arm Circumference (MUAC) tape.
The approach was developed with the objective of improving coverage of treatment services, detecting cases earlier and improving awareness on malnutrition.
