The GEN XANH (GREEN GEN) 2025 competition is for students from universities and colleges in the Northern region of Viet Nam. Organized by the Viet Nam Disaster and Dyke Management Authority (VDDMA) in coordination with UNICEF Viet Nam, with support from the Government of Japan, this competition welcomes innovative projects and ideas from students that apply technology to disaster prevention and control, climate change responses, and environmental protection.
If you:
- Are a university or college student from any major (engineering, environment, education, information technology, economics, social sciences, etc.).
- Are interested in disaster prevention and control, climate change response, and environmental protection.

The competition is co-organized by the Viet Nam Disaster and Dyke Management Authority (under the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment) and UNICEF Viet Nam, with support from the Government of Japan.
Youth of the Digital Age – Act for a Resilient Future Against Disasters and Climate Change
Purpose of the competition
- Raise awareness among youth and students about disaster prevention and control, climate change responses, and environmental protection.
- Encourage the creation of impactful solutions through applying science and technology (AI, IoT, Big Data, etc.) to mitigate disaster risks, adapt to the climate crisis and protect the environment.
- Connect knowledge with technology and communities to create a space for learning, presenting ideas, and fostering healthy competition among students from various fields.
- Seek and nurture young initiatives with practical application potential, contributing to the innovation ecosystem in the arena of disasters and climate.
- Inspire action for a sustainable future, by amplifying the voices of youth within communities and to national and international leaders.
Proposed Categories
- Category 1: Early warning solutions (floods, landslides, forest fires, etc.)
- Category 2: Real-time disaster monitoring systems (IoT, drones, sensors, etc.)
- Category 3: Mobile applications/smart devices or website platforms supporting rescue and community connection
- Category 4: Post-disaster recovery solutions (damage assessment using AI, smart reconstruction)
- Category 5: Infrastructure solutions (smart disaster-resilient urban models)
- Category 6: Other scientific and technological solutions.
How to participate
ROUND 1 – PREPAREDNESS
📆 Time: From 10/8 to 05:00pm 21/9/2025

- Students form teams, each of up to 05 members. Multi-disciplinary teams, teams with disadvantaged students, and mixed-gender teams are encouraged.
- Each team can only submit 01 project proposal presented. While written submissions are acceptable, creative forms are encouraged (video, slides, etc.).
- The application includes: registration form and project proposal with objectives, scope, beneficiaries, expected results, and budget.
Result: 20 teams with the best ideas will enter Round 2
ROUND 2 – RESPONSE
📍 Location: Ha Noi (Venue to be updated)
📆 Time: 22/9/2025
- Up to 20 teams will present directly to the Judges.
Result: 06 teams will be selected for the Final.
The 06 selected teams for the Final will receive technical support to finalize their projects.
ROUND FINAL – BUILD BACK BETTER
📍 Location: Ha Noi (Venue to be updated)
📆 Time: 30/9/2025
- Part 1 – Affirmation: Project presentation to the Judges and representatives of management agencies.
- Part 2 – Confrontation: Teams to be split into pairs to compete by presenting, questioning, defending their proposal before the Judges and audience.
Scoring will be based on: Presentation, communication, creativity, feasibility, and live audience voting.
PRIZES: TOTAL GIFT VALUE OF VND32 MILLION
- First Prize – Green Forest: VND10 million + Certificate of Merit
- Second Prize – Green Garden: VND8 million + Certificate of Merit
- Third Prize – Green Sprout: VND5 million + Certificate of Merit
- 3 Consolation Prizes – Green Seed: VND3 million + Certificate of Merit
→ All teams entering Round 2 will receive certificates and souvenirs.
🎤 The winning team will have chance to present their project to delegates at the Commenmoration of International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction 2025 in Hanoi.
ARE YOU READY FOR THE GAME?
- Competition Launch: August 5-9, 2025.
- Submission of Round 1 entries: August 10 - September 7, 2025 (4 weeks).
- Announcement of Round 1 results: September 15, 2025.
- Round 2: Live competition September 22, 2025.
- Round Final and Award Ceremony in Hanoi: September 30, 2025.
- The First Prize winner will participate and present at the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction 2025 on October 13, 2025.
SO, WHAT SHOULD YOU KEEP IN MIND WHEN PARTICIPATING IN THE COMPETITION?
For Round 1
- Eligibility: Students from universities and colleges in the Northern region.
- Number of team: No limit on the number of participating teams.
Evaluation Criteria:
- Creativity: New ideas, different from existing solutions.
- Feasibility: Can be implemented in practice, suitable for Vietnamese conditions.
- IT Application: Level of integration of digital technology, modern technologies (IoT, Cloud, soft/hard wares, Blockchain).
- Social Impact: Ability to reduce risks, raise community awareness.
- Presentation Skills: Clear, convincing, with demo/prototype (if any).
- Communication Skills: Logical answers to questions from the Jury and other competing teams.
Notes:
- The submitted product must not be subject to copyright disputes.
- The submitted product has not been used, and teams commit not to copy in whole or in part, or borrow ideas from ideas that have been put into use by individuals or businesses in Viet Nam or abroad.
- During the competition, contestants are not allowed to use this competition product to participate in any other competition.
- Teams cannot use ideas or projects that have won prizes in domestic and international competitions within the last 05 years counting back from January 1, 2025.
- Teams cannot use products that have won prizes in this competition in any other similar competition.
- To withdraw from the competition, the author or team must notify the Organizing Committee in writing at least 03 days before the submission deadline.
- In case of copyright disputes arising after the competition product wins a prize, the contestant will be solely responsible before the law.
- All costs or taxes related to the prize will be met according to the provisions of law, and the winning team will be responsible for them.
