Conversations about breastfeeding
A story of Komolakhon Rakhmanova, Monitoring and Evaluation Officer, UNICEF Uzbekistan
Breastfeeding gives children the best start in life and it is nature’s perfect food.
I am a mother of three, and I breastfed all of them. For me, during that time, support and access to reliable information were key. After all, breastfeeding is not only about the mother and child health, but also about developing a strong emotional and psychological connection between the two of them.
Speaking of support to mothers, I mean the support of relatives and friends, employers, and the society in general. In the modern world, nursing mothers should be able to balance breastfeeding with study, work and an active lifestyle. It is very important that the society and employers ensure proper conditions, such as a shorter working day, a designated breastfeeding space, and support in the case of illness or when the child needs to be vaccinated.
In terms of access to reliable information, we can say that now this is not a big problem since a lot of information is available on the Internet. However, not everyone has the online access, and those who do must be very careful and selective in the use of the available information.
Breastfeeding gives children the best start in life and it is nature’s perfect food. Its benefits last a lifetime, for mother as well as child. Let us all support and promote breastfeeding for healthier, smarter and happier generation.
