Conversations about breastfeeding
A story of Nargiza Mamasadikova, Programme Associate, UNICEF in Uzbekistan
I am very happy that I breastfed my baby. Breastfeeding was the brightest moment of my life! Fortunately, I had enough milk, my baby and I enjoyed every moment of this experience.
When I learned that I am pregnant, I was working in the Mother and Child Health project, which had an important component of breastfeeding. I knew that breastfeeding was good for the child, but I also learned many interesting facts and useful information from health professionals.
I am very grateful to Dr. Kamola Salikhova, National Coordinator on Breastfeeding. I learned from her that it is recommended to breastfeed the child for two years or more; and for the first six months, the child should be exclusively breastfed. I followed the recommendation.
Based on my experience, I can say with certainty that infants do not need additional fluid during the first six months of life, breast milk is sufficient for them.
Based on my experience, I can say with certainty that infants do not need additional fluid during the first six months of life, breast milk is sufficient for them. It contains enough water and vitamins, and it fully meets the child's need for nutrition. Unfortunately, many mothers do not know about this.
Thanks to breastfeeding, my son grew up healthy and never got sick. This wonderful practice also contributed to building a close emotional connection between my child and me. I'm sure my son felt protected.
It is so great to see your baby healthy, happy and smiling!
