Ukrainian students to contribute to government policy making
Learn more how Ukrainian students are now able to contribute to shaping the government policy
On 3 June 2019, the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine signed a Memorandum on macro-economic forecasting with leading Ukrainian universities. Thanks to this collaboration, students and young researchers will gain an access to a platform for their meaningful participation in public governance and strategizing.
The new project ‘Synergy of knowledge, experience and creativity for future’ is aimed to accelerate the Sustainable Development Goals and transformation of the national economy into sustainable advanced system. Several top ranked universities, including Taras Shevchenko Kyiv National University, Kyiv Polytechnic University and Kyiv National Economic University have already joined the initiative.
"I hope that everyone here, and at the Ministry, and in the universities here in Kyiv benefits from effective cooperation,"
With this initiative, young people’s power and potential will be further revealed and provide an evidence-based foundation for public policies and decisions in their country.
"I would also like to take part in this kind of projects in upcoming years. I would like to contribute to developing forecasts, because I want to engage in public governance. This would give me a priceless experience that I could apply in my future profession."
With UNICEF and private sector’s support, this new cooperation is meant to shape and extend engagement of youth in decision-making at the national level.
"They are not participating just to tick a box. They will definitely improve the quality and outcomes of the forecasting exercises that are currently in progress in Ukraine."
Having recognized a crucial role of innovative approaches for public policies that engage young people, UNICEF fully encourages the suggested combination of expert knowledge and experience with innovations and fresh eye.
