KYIV, 7 May 2020. UNICEF Ukraine has recognized 43 graduates of the newly developed online course on youth engagement, organized in the framework of the Child and Youth Friendly Cities Initiative. Launched in January this year, the “How to activate youth engagement at the local level” online course comprised 15 online webinars with leading experts in youth participation, youth policy, local governance and inclusion.
The course includes three stages: online lectures, a mentorship programme and study tours. The online classes were the first stage of the course and provided the young leaders and their communities with practical tools for collaboration. Students who successfully completed the final test will be invited to work with mentors to implement youth engagement projects and to join the study tours across Ukraine.
The course was initially developed for youth workers and young people from municipalities participating in the Child and Youth Friendly Сities Initiative in Ukraine. Due to high demand from other communities, access to the webinars was opened for a wider audience.
The course curriculum was developed by leading experts and practitioners in various fields, including Ukraine’s Deputy Minister of Sports and Youth, and well-known lecturers on youth participation from the United Kingdom and Germany.
Over 2,000 people joined the online sessions, including nearly 400 people from 30 CFCI communities who registered to participate in the course. Based on the test results, 43 participants were selected to enrol in the mentorship programme and study tours.
The course trained a cohort of 43 changemakers - youth activists and youth workers - who were equipped with knowledge and tools from the best practitioners in youth participation to change their communities.
Equipped with this diverse knowledge, the webinar participants are ready to develop their own strategies, empower young people and contribute to positive changes in their own cities and towns.
