The report examines court systems and how to make them more child-responsive by eliciting the key features of physical and operational environment of courthouses that deliver child-friendly justice.

In light of UNICEF’s strategic priorities concerning children in contact with the justice system, this specific report deal with the issue of the guiding principles on child-friendly courthouse set-up and processes.

The report addresses some key principles on child-responsive facilities for children in the judicial system and sets out guidance on key features of physical and operational environment of courthouses that deliver child-friendly justice and how these child-friendly courthouses can be operated recognizing their important role in ensuring that children can understand and participate safely in non-discriminatory proceedings.

This report has been produced in cooperation with Ministry of Justice, United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and International Children’s Center.
