UNICEF’s history encompasses many of the most important global issues of the past sixty years including health care for all, poverty elimination, disaster relief, education and children’s and women’s rights.

Professor İhsan Doğramacı, founder and Honorary President of the Turkish National Committee for UNICEF, introduces this special issue of Say Yes with a short memoir of his involvement with the organisation over the past 60 years.

From its modest beginning some 56 years ago, UNICEF’s partnership with Turkey has grown into one of the longest standing and strongest examples of national–international cooperation in the organisation’s history. Sumru Kutlu, one of UNICEF’s longest serving members of staff in Turkey, speaks about her experience working for the organisation.

Professor Talat Halman, President of the Turkish National Committee for UNICEF recalls the origins of the organisation and looks forward to a bright future for both UNICEF and children the world over.

We also take this opportunity to thank our international and national donors for their generosity over the years in supporting our work for the benefit of children in Turkey.
