About the conference
The COVID-19 emergency acted as a catalyst in ICT in education in Timor-Leste. Physical distancing regulations forced us to innovate and set up, in a matter of weeks, a series of distance learning programmes that would normally take several months to be conceived, developed and implemented.

The Eskola ba Uma initiative, developed by the Ministry of Education with the support of UNICEF and other partners, forever changed the way we think of ICT in education in Timor-Leste. It made us see in a new light not only the challenges associated with ICT in the country, but also the exciting opportunities that we are ready to explore.

The ‘Reimagine Education: ICT and Innovation in Timor-Leste’ conference is organized by the Ministry of Education and UNICEF. The conference looks at ways in which ICT and innovation are transforming education. It brings together a network of experts, professionals and key partners, including the private sector, that are committed to promoting ICT in education, capacity building and skills development in Timor-Leste and beyond.

The conference is taking place on 26-27 October 2020 at the Convention Center of Dili. The conference brings together over 150 participants from Government, National Parliament, civil society, academia, development partners, United Nations agencies and teachers and students.
