Project Evaluation “Improving Access to Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) in Rural Schools and Communities through Capacity Development” in Timor-Leste.

A formative evaluation of the EU-UNICEF supported 45-month WASH project in Rural Schools and Communities was conducted in 2015 aiming to improve access to WASH services in rural areas in Timor-Leste.  The results of the evaluation provided evidence of the project benefitting more than 18,000 rural population. More than 90 per cent of target communities have access to clean water, compared to more than 45 per cent before the project. This figure exceeds the project target by 11 per cent. 

Furthermore more than 5,000 school children benefitted from improved access to WASH facilities through the project interventions in 28 schools in rural areas. These schools also showed improved school attendance, especially for girls. Read key findings and lessons learned.

The Situation Analysis Review of Youth Timor-Leste (Youth SiTan) was developed by the Secretariat of State for Youth and Sport (SSYS) with support of UNICEF. The report presents an integrated analysis on the situation of adolescents and young people in the country to address a cross-cutting issues affecting a group of full of opportunities but also vulnerabilities. The report was launched by SSYS together with relevant ministries at National Youth Conference in November 2014.

The 2014 Equity Focused Situation Analysis of Children in Timor-Leste (SitAn) is a comprehensive report aiming to provide an overall understanding of Timorese children - the current status of their basic rights on health and nutrition, water, sanitation and hygiene, education, protection, and participation, as well as the key challenges faced by the disadvantaged girls and boys and their families. The report was launched in July 2014 and widely disseminated to line ministries and all 13 district administrators.

The Timor-Leste Communication and Media Survey

This survey is the second nation-wide media use study conducted in Timor-Leste in 2011. The survey mainly assess the extent of media coverage and audience reach/access to information and types of media.
