3rd week of December - UNICEF calls for end to violence against children in Thailand’s deep south

Primary school children pray in front of their classroom at a school in Pattani Province. To date, more than 50 children have been killed and some 340 injured in Thailand's southern border provinces since the resurgence of violence in 2004. UNICEF last week called for end to violence against children in the far south after an 11-month old baby was killed in the violence at a teahouse in Narathiwat Province.

UNICEF's Photo of the Week highlights the best images focusing on the situations facing children around the world. By sharing their stories, and illustrating the issues that affect how they live, we hope to promote and defend the rights of children everywhere.
