Photo of the week
UNICEF's Photo of the Week highlights the best images focusing on the situations facing children around the world. By sharing their stories, and illustrating the issues that affect how they live, we hope to promote and defend the rights of children everywhere.
Latest photo: BANGKOK, 2011: A girl looks at floodwaters from the second floor of Laksi temple, which serves as an evacuation centre, on 2 November, 2011. The water around the area is about 80-90 centimetres high. Twenty-six of 76 provinces in Thailand are affected by the country's worst flooding in 50 years.
In this emergency, UNICEF has delivered 20,000 insecticide-treated mosquito nets to help protect families in shelters and flood-ravaged areas from dengue fever and other mosquito-borne diseases. UNICEF has supported the establishment of "Child Friendly Spaces" at large shelters to provide safe areas for psychosocial support activities for children. UNICEF has earmarked almost 10 million baht to support the government's flood relief efforts in the areas of health, child protection, water supply and sanitation and hygiene promotion.
