UNICEF has a significant role in the procurement of nutrition products for the treatment of malnutrition in children.  In recognition of this and in an attempt to be fully transparent UNICEF is making available a retrospective of nutrition product prices for our international and local procurement of the product.

This overview has been prepared following consultations with international nutrition product suppliers to UNICEF on making pricing information more transparent. The prices obtained by UNICEF are based on the UNICEF mandate, UNICEF aggregated quantities, commercial terms, reliability of forecasts, timelines of payment, and a long-standing relationship with the industry.

UNICEF encourages further expansion of RUTF supplier base. The priority is to identify manufacturers in countries where RUTF is used (current demand is concentrated in Sub-Saharan Africa). Our strategic objective is to source 50 per cent of RUTF in programmatic countries by 2016. UNICEF procured 38 per cent of RUTF from manufacturers operating in programmatic countries in 2015.
