Highlights

The study examines the tea plantation sector's landscape and sheds light on the economic challenges and social circumstances encountered by households within tea estates. Spanning the period encompassing and following the economic upheavals of 2023, this analysis primarily focuses on water sanitation and hygiene (WASH), education, child protection, and social protection. Covering the Central, Uva, Southern, and Sabaragamuwa Provinces, the analysis informs the findings based on 1650 household surveys and nearly 50 focus group discussions involving various stakeholders such as government entities, private sector representatives, civil society organizations, trade unions, and academic institutions.
