About

United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has long embraced and prioritized gender equality and women’s and girls’ empowerment not only as core principles and practices, but as essential to the realization of the human rights and social development. UNICEF established its first Gender Policy in 2010, as the global community was advancing a more progressive normative framework around gender equality and the empowerment of girls and women. UNICEF believes that both the achievement of gender equality and the empowerment of all girls and women are paramount in their own right, as well as essential contributors to, and central elements of, inclusive and sustainable development and our vision of a more equitable world. Women-owned/led businesses contribute significantly to the world economy, generating millions of new employment opportunities and spurring local development. But their full economic potential remains largely untapped or underutilized.
In this connection UNICEF Sri Lanka wishes to create a database of suppliers whose organizations are led by females to ensure equal and fair opportunities for those organizations to participate in procurement activities of UNICEF and other UN agencies in Sri Lanka. UNICEF is creating this database on behalf of all    UN agencies in Sri Lanka for their use as part of the UN Joint Procurement Team’s terms of reference for promoting female led businesses through UN Business Operations Strategy. Therefore UNICEF, Sri Lanka Country Office invites EoIs from qualified and experienced institutions led by women to register as potential suppliers of goods and services to UNICEF and other UN agencies for the regular programs as well as emergency responses.
