IOC - International Olympic Committee

UNICEF's partnership with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) dates back to 1993 when the two organisations committed themselves to work together to promote and protect the rights of all children and young people to healthy recreation and quality primary education through sports and the Olympic ideal. Both organisations have actively continued to pursue joint programmes that use sports for child and youth development, as well as to develop advocacy and communication campaigns in accordance with this global committment.

The primary focus of the partnership is to encourage National Olympic Committees and the respective UNICEF country offices to work together to make this partnership a reality at country level and to realize the power of sports to achieve goals for child and youth development.

UNICEF collaborated with the ATHENS 2004 Olympic Organising Committee at the Olympic Youth Camp to educate and mobilize over 400 athletes representing every nation to become champions of children's rights.
