UNICEF Executive Director Carol Bellamy to address 10th World Sport for All Congress

NEW YORK/ROME, 11 November 2004 – UNICEF Executive Director Carol Bellamy is in Rome, Italy to address the 10th World Sport for All Congress. The main theme of the Congress is ‘Sport for all as a tool for education and development’.

Ms. Bellamy’s address to the Congress will focus on UNICEF’s active role in promoting sport for development and will present numerous examples of good practices and partnerships from UNICEF’s work worldwide. Her remarks will underline the challenges to be faced when promoting sport for all in developing countries. 

The theme of the Congress will be articulated in four panel discussions focused on the following topics:
1. Challenges to promoting sport for all in developing countries;
2. The role of sport for all in promoting health and preventing diseases,
3. Sport for all and environment;
4. The role of educational institutions in sport for all.

The Congress is being held under the auspices of the International Olympic Committee and was organized by the Italian National Olympic Committee, in collaboration with the World Health Organization and the General Association of International Sports Federations. The event runs from 11 to 14 November 2004
