China provides life saving funds for UNICEF Somalia

The Chinese Ambassador, UNICEF Somalia Representative and Somalia’s Acting Minister of Humanitarian Affairs at the China funding launch in Mogadishu.

Mogadishu, Somalia, 21 November 2017 – The Chinese funding to provide life saving services to people in Somalia suffering from the drought was officially marked at a ceremony in Mogadishu. The Ambassador to Somalia, Qin Jian handed to the UNICEF Somalia representative, Steven Lauwerier, a mock up cheque showcasing the $2 million funding for UNICEF Somalia which will help thousands of children suffering from life threatening malnutrition in south and central Somalia.

The Chinese Ambassador, UNICEF Somalia Representative and Somalia’s Acting Minister of Humanitarian Affairs at the China funding launch in Mogadishu.

During his speech, the Chinese Ambassador thanks UNICEF for its work for Somali women and children saying he hoped this would be the beginning of a long partnership between China and UNICEF in Somalia. The ceremony was also attended by the acting Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management Elmi Omar Ainsane.
