18-19 February. New York, NY. UNICEF and Fordham University, with the support of the European Commission, hosted a policy forum on Child Friendly Budgets for 2010 and Beyond: Toward Global Economic Recovery with a Human Face. Recovery with a human face requires adequate resources be channelled to effective programs targeting children, women and poor families.  This conference focused on ensuring budget transparency and citizen participation, implementing robust countercyclical social spending programs in response to crises and building and financing child-sensitive social protection systems. 

29 November - 2 December 2008. Doha, Qatar. Follow-up International Conference on Financing for Development to review the implementation of the Monterrey Consensus. UNICEF and UNIFEM co-hosted a side event to the meeting, "In Times of Crisis: Making Budgets Work for Children, Women and the MDGs conference."  See more on the side event here.

18 April 2007. Astana, Kazakhstan. A UNICEF-initiated conference focusing on child-friendly local and national budgeting was held at the national Parliament in Kazakhstan’s capital. Read a complete summary of the conference, including the list of recommendations.

30 January 2007. New York, NY.  The Open Dialogue: Eyes on the Budget as a Human Rights Instrument conference drew colleagues together from the World Bank, The UN Special Unit on South-South Cooperation, the International Budget project and 61 country delegations. The dialogue focused on how to make national budgets and public policies as instruments for the realization of human rights, including children's rights. See more on the conference here.
