Evaluation of the integrated maternal and childhood health program in Serbia
Building the capacity of primary health care providers
The goal of the Integrated Maternal and Childhood Health (IMCH) initiative in Serbia, is to build the capacity of primary health care providers to incorporate the health needs of mother and child into existing systems, recognising that a healthy mother is a prerequisite for a healthy child.
This program is based on UNICEF/WHO global Integrated Management of Childhood Illness (IMCI) guidelines but adapted to the specific needs of Serbia and Montenegro.
The program is referred to as IMCH to reflect the nature of these changes.
