Belgrade, Serbia, 2 November 2018 - UNICEF has begun the distribution of 475 packages of winter clothes and footwear for refugee and migrant children up to the age of 12 in Serbia.
Each winter clothing kits contain jackets, trousers, thermal undergarments, winter socks, hats, scarves and gloves for one child.
The first winter clothing kits have been distributed today by UNICEF in Serbia Representative, Ms. Regina De Dominicis, to children placed in the Adasevci and Principovac transit centre.
“Winter is knocking on the door, and many children in refugee and reception/transit centres don’t have adequate clothes,” says Regina De Dominicis, and adds that “UNICEF and its partners have continuously been working on reducing risks for refugee and migrant children. Besides providing adequate clothes and footwear, we have secured that these children have adequate spaces for play and learning in early age and get psychosocial support, to be included into the educational system while in Serbia, that mothers can rest and breastfeed their babies in private, that unaccompanied and separated children are protected.”
Each winter clothing kits contain jackets, trousers, thermal undergarments, winter socks, hats, scarves and gloves for one child.
The distribution of winter clothing kits is carried out in cooperation with partner organisations and in coordination with the Serbian Commissariat for Refugees and Migration.
"Cooperation with UNICEF has been very good for many years. UNICEF provides precise help at the right moment for the most vulnerable part of the refugee and migrant population in Serbia - children and their families. Just like this distribution of winter shoes and clothes that arrived at the right time", said Ivan Gerginov, Assistant Commissioner for Refugees and Migration of the Republic of Serbia.
